Happy Zodiac Anniversary, 1990s!

We went into Sobeys tonight to get supplies for nachos and I just happened to happen upon this gem, which I promptly bought:

It was doubly fortuitous, because I love orange chocolate, AND it’s the Year of the Horse, my sign!

I’m not one to believe in astrological fortunes or pre-destiny, but it does so happen that I have a lot in common that I can relate to with my across-the-board generalization for 1990s metal horses.  Let’s take a look, shall we?

STRENGTHS:  With the unbending influence of the Metal Element, the Metal Horse becomes the most strong-willed and bold of all the Horse types.  They are cheerful, perceptive, talented, earthy but stubborn.  In this sense, the Metal Horse is not one to be tied down in any aspect of their life.  Instead of making commitments, the Metal Horse prefers to take a more untamed approach to life, seeking out variety in all that they do.  Confident and self-interested, the Metal Horse is always looking for ways to reach their desired level of success in an adventurous way. Although the Metal Horse can be hard to predict, they can gain many admirers as a result of their engaging enthusiastic and action-oriented nature.

I am pretty strong-willed and stubborn.  I like to think that I’m cheerful, perceptive, (talented?).  Always looking for ways to reach their desired levels of success sin adventurous ways”, haha, I’m a bit of a high-achieving dreamer.  And I have always been pretty self-confident, even when I feel alone or isolated, I always maintain a stubborn seed of “But I’m right!”.  Sometimes, this works to my disadvantage.

CAREER:  Although the spontaneous Metal Horse may have trouble selecting a career, their nature skills and presence will allow for success in a variety of fields. The Metal Horse may do well in exciting careers such as journalism, art, public relations or communications. Those born under the Metal Horse sign have been known to find success in performance on film.*

“Trouble selecting a career” = YES.  Although sometimes I get so frustrated trying to manage multiple aspects of my life, and all I really want is to be able to say: “Yes, that’s my thing.” and focus only on that, in the end, who I am is really someone who takes pleasure in knowing and being good at multiple things in life and want to be able to experience as many of my favourite things as possible before I die.  I do love the arenas of journalism, art and law.

WEAKNESSES:  While the confident Metal Horse has many strengths to offer, their personality also has its downfalls.  With a truly free spirit, the Metal Horse’s biggest challenge may be committing to anything in life.  Similarly, their interests become so varied that the Metal Horse can spread their efforts to thin and fail to find focus.*

Sometimes I definitely feel scattered, and that I don’t commit enough to certain things.  There have definitely been points in my life where I spread myself too thin, which is not great.  During those times I’d always hear Bilbo Baggins in my head, “I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.”  I’d rather experience things deeply than superficially, but sometimes I get so preoccupied with fitting everything all in that I need to take a deep breath and calm down with all my expectations and excitements, and just zen in and focus on one thing at a time.

ORGANS:  The organs of the Metal Horse are lungs and the respiratory system.  The Metal Horse is encouraged to strengthen these vital organs by engaging in a healthy doses of physical activity.

This is hilarious, because I have asthma.  My lungs collapsed twice when I was a kid, and one of the biggest triggers for my asthma was horses.

Done.  I’m going to eat this chocolate now.

Dooes your zodiac / astrological or other birth-based-life-prediction-thing match you at all? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Second Birthday, Blog!

Wow! My blogging celebrates it’s second birthday today. Woo! I can’t believe it’s already been two years since I started uploading on tumblr in order to share my exchange to Japan (and my cats). On that little micro-blog (that’s still going!) , I learned a lot about community, and how ideally you should release your content (an art of consistency that I haven’t mastered yet). I even had one post reach over 37,000 (and still climbing) notes!

While I’ve gotten a bit better at it since then, I know there are still a lot of things that I want to accomplish here (I’ve got a long list of ideas to try. Having a blog is a lot like having a charming, yet never-ending, home renovation project always at hand)

Here’s to graduating from the micro-blog to something more wordy. Instead of snippets, here there will be stories.

Thanks for following!
